Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
EFT is based on the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture, it is a form of Meridian therapy which releases blocked energy through tapping on acupoints. It believes that the mind and body are linked and that the energy blockages are the cause of our emotional issues. By releasing the energy blockages it allows you to effectively resolve the issue.
I started looking into EFT as it has been proven to work for many issues including
Phobia/fears
Anxiety/depression
PTSD/trauma
Pain
This treatment is something which can be taught to my clients to help maintain their progress at home. It is good for PTSD/trauma as you do not need to have in depth discussion about the issues you have faced like you would with talking therapies. It can also be completed while you are out in public, discretely.
I have Fibromyalgia and i am constantly looking for ways to better manage this condition along with the other issues that come along with it. When learning about EFT it seemed to be able to work on all things that i have so far just had to live with. I decided to learn more about EFT as this could help so many more people with long term illness and a whole host of other issues.
Mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT)
This can be used to prevent the relapse stage of depression and other disorders which commonly have a relapse phase, as well as a stand alone treatment of a variety of issues. It aims to make you aware of your thoughts and feelings and how to accept them. It teaches you how to not react to the triggers and simply acknowledge and accept them.
Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)
A traditional talking therapy which helps change your behaviours through changing your thinking processes. It is proven to work well on a number issues and has become a favourite with a number of people. The idea is to realise you have dysfunctional thought processes and to alter the thought processes to resolve your issues. CBT is a goal orientated problem focused therapy with a maximum of 20 sessions. Finding the root cause of the issues to tackle the unwanted behaviours.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing
Ths treatment also bilateral stimulation, either eye movements or tapping. The belief is that while thinking about the issues you have while having the bilateral stimulation it will help you reprocess your memories. The reason behind this is that it replicates the REM state of sleep which is responsible for memory processing and filing.
This again is great for PTSD/trauma as you do not need to go into great depth about the issue you have, this stops the need
